Furthering on the idea of transportation I stumbled upon a concept called, "Priority Seating for Conversation" that posts signs to give priority to seating in which people want to converse. I think that this has the possibility to add another layer to existing public spaces and public transportation. For example specific benches within parks could be designated as conversation benches or the back of the SEPTA bus could be designated as a conversation area.
The aim of the creators of the project was to "foster a culture of friendliness" but I think that this additional layer has the potential to spark much more than friendliness but interaction, debate, and exchange. Additional offerings could be paired with the idea such as posted weekly conversation starters or informal debate and voting.
The concept was one of five chosen from the GOOD and BMW Guggenheim Lab call for imaginative and unconventional ways to improve urban comfort called City Forward. All the other submissions can be viewed here; http://www.bmwguggenheimlab.org/city-forward.
